History of the traditional deckchair This traditional deckchair is seen at beaches all across the country and has been in use in this form for over one hundred years. John Thomas Moore took out a patent for the adjustable folding chair in 1886 and manufactured them in Macclesfield, they were originally used on board ships, hence the name - deckchair. Soon after this they began to appear on promenades, piers and beaches up and down the country.
How to put up your deckchair 1. Stand the folded deckchair up vertically with both folding arms pointing upwards 2. Rotate the longest notched arm down away from the frame 3. Rotate the other shorter arm towards the longer one and fit the horizontal bar in one of the slots 4. Put the chair on the ground 5. Adjust the seating angle by moving the horizontal bar up or down the slots 6. Sit in the chair 7. Enjoy relaxing in the sunshine |
